Make ‘no’ your vitamin!

Motivational speaker Les Brown taught me the following lesson, ‘Make NO your vitamin!’.  If you are trying to be successful, you need to be willing to accept rejection and keep moving forward.  He tells a story about when he was trying to get a job at a radio station and the manager kept sending him away.  He went back everyday with the same enthusiasm and continued to be sent away.  Finally, the station manager gave him a chance and worked hard and waited for his opportunity to become an on-air personality.

Turn to this advice whenever I am working applying for homes, promotions, jobs, etc.  There is often many rejections on the way to success and you need to persevere and look for the next opportunity.  When one door closes, another door opens.

Serenity

Have you ever been in a situation where everything was stacked against you?  As if you were no longer in the driver’s seat of your fate like you might’ve once been?

Unfortunately, I feel that way now.   We have been looking at homes for my family to move into. We have  been doing so without the best credit scores.  So far, we are trying to apply every home that we are interested in, with hopes of finding one that says yes.  I luckily have a good stable job to fall back on.

I believe in karma, but also believe that we have to do our part as well.  I am doing my part and working hard to accomplish my goal.  My goal is to find a 3 bedroom home in a safe neighborhood for my family.  Doesn’t sound like I’m asking too much, does it?

I have a quiet confidence that things will work out.  During tough times I like to remember the serenity prayer that my mother introduced me to when I was younger.  You can only focus on what you can control and not stress about what you can’t.

Only I can stop the Rain!

Life sucks sometime!  By the way, it’s also not fair!

Now that we got that out of the way, let me ask you the following question.  What are you doing to improve yourself and change your circumstances?  They say the definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting a different result.  Let’s say that you are finding yourself unhappy with life, finances, work, love etc.  What are you doing to change it?

Change is rarely easy, but often necessary.  You need to be willing to make the tough choices and focus 100% on things that will drive your life in the right direction.  Here is another song from my motivational playlist.  DMX, like many of us, has had to overcome many challenges in life.  He has a very clear incantation throughout the song, “Now I know, only I can stop the rain!”  Enjoy! Don’t hit snooze!

After some time to relax this weekend, it can be hard to jump back into the swing of things.  I like to workout first thing in the morning after my cheat day.  Otherwise, I find a way to talk myself out of it.  You know that, ‘I’ll start again tomorrow’ nonsense you tell yourself.  That only last so long.  One more day turns into a week, which turns into a month, which turns into a year… you get the point.   Focus on why change and growth is important and keep moving forward.

Be grateful!

Make sure to take time everyday to think about what you are grateful for.   I had an overwhelming week at work, but I made sure to create some time to detach and relax today.  Make sure to create work/ life balance for yourself and your family.  Then you can get back to grinding and working towards your goals tomorrow.  Here’s a great family picture from bowling today.

Never stop believing in yourself!  I’ll talk to you tomorrow 🙂
