Only I can stop the Rain!

Life sucks sometime!  By the way, it’s also not fair!

Now that we got that out of the way, let me ask you the following question.  What are you doing to improve yourself and change your circumstances?  They say the definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting a different result.  Let’s say that you are finding yourself unhappy with life, finances, work, love etc.  What are you doing to change it?

Change is rarely easy, but often necessary.  You need to be willing to make the tough choices and focus 100% on things that will drive your life in the right direction.  Here is another song from my motivational playlist.  DMX, like many of us, has had to overcome many challenges in life.  He has a very clear incantation throughout the song, “Now I know, only I can stop the rain!”  Enjoy! Daily Quote

Inspiration can come from anywhere.  You have to be open to it.  Sometimes you just need to ask.   Tonight I asked my daughter Violet to give me an motivational quote to share.  She is wise beyond her years!!

Don’t hit snooze!

After some time to relax this weekend, it can be hard to jump back into the swing of things.  I like to workout first thing in the morning after my cheat day.  Otherwise, I find a way to talk myself out of it.  You know that, ‘I’ll start again tomorrow’ nonsense you tell yourself.  That only last so long.  One more day turns into a week, which turns into a month, which turns into a year… you get the point.   Focus on why change and growth is important and keep moving forward.

Be grateful!

Make sure to take time everyday to think about what you are grateful for.   I had an overwhelming week at work, but I made sure to create some time to detach and relax today.  Make sure to create work/ life balance for yourself and your family.  Then you can get back to grinding and working towards your goals tomorrow.  Here’s a great family picture from bowling today.

What’s next?

Good morning!

After 2 exhausting days, I can finally breathe and relax with the family.  I have been busy putting the finishing touches on leading my team towards a pretty cool achievement at work.  In the end we were successful and acheived recognition as being ‘Gold Standard’!   So… What’s next?

I can most closely compare this to the first time I lost weight about 6 years ago.   I had lost 100+ pounds and felt amazing the first time I stepped on the scale and saw my accomplishment!  In the following days I asked the same question, ‘whats next?’.  I had formed a belief that I all of my problems would be solved once I lost the weight, and my life would be perfect.   I was successful at becoming  fit, strong and having more energy.  Still, I was in a failing marriage and was in a non-desirable work situation at the time.  I realized that I was focused on only one aspect of my life, and losing another 20 pounds wasn’t going to fix my other problems!  Ultimately, I threw in the towel and gained all of the weight back over the next 2 years.

So, where am I going with this?  Make sure that you are taking steps(even if they are small steps) every day towards the things you want to improve.  Take time to celebrate your achievements,  then wake up the next day and continue to improve so you don’t  regress.  Set goals for all aspects in your life and stay focused on what you really want the outcomes to be.  As Tony Robbins once taught me, ‘Spend 20% of your time on the problem, and 80% of your time on the solution.’

Week 6

Good morning!  After a huge weight loss last week, I was just hoping to break even this week.  I’m excited to say that I did just that.  Last time I lost weight, I used to expect that if I had one good week, the next week will be just as good.   It doesn’t work that way.  Wieght can fluctuate due to many factors like water retention and others.   I have still lost and maintained 22 pounds of weight loss in 6 weeks.

I like to remind myself of a lesson I learned from Coach Phil Jackson.  In his book ‘Eleven Rings’ he talked about a message that he gave to his teams which came from the Zen Buddhists. ‘Chop wood, carry water’.  When things are going well and when things aren’t great, you should chop wood, carry water’.  In other words, keep doing the little things and stay humble matter what feedback life is giving you.
