Your Fear is Always Worse Than The Act Itself!

Have you ever sat around terrified of what is about to come?  We all have.  It’s how you handle the situation that counts.

Yesterday I took my 4 year old and 6 year old to the doctor.  The were both offered the flu shot and I said yes on their behalf.  The boys were scared and it couldn’t be more obvious.  They both screamed, “No!!!”.  I had to hold each of them and restrain them so the doctor can give them the shot.  Both of them had the same reaction afterwards, ” That’s it?? “. All of the fear had riled them up and they made the situation so much worse in their heads.

This lesson goes far beyond the doctor’s office. It goes for all aspects of life!  Don’t be overly nervous for events that you believe are too big for you.  You can handle anything thrown at you.  Don’t forget it!!

Never stop believing in yourself!  Talk to you soon 🙂

  1. I JUST had this moment last night. Garrett had gone the whole day without realizing that he had three tiny splinters in his finger. When we went to sanitize his hands, before he touched his infant sister, they stung and he couldn’t stop crying. We got in the bath tub (it was bath night and the warm, soapy water tends to held with the splinters), and I started to work with the tweezers. He absolutely freaked out, but DID have an actual realization that, once it was all over, it wasn’t scary or painful anymore.

A good reminder for us adults!!

  2. Hi Dan!!! I’ve been having the same reaction to going to workouts lately. I obtained a membership at my local recreation center and have been twice now to use the workout machine room. I’ve never had a gym membership and have never used most of the machines. But I have been on a treadmill and that’s what I’ve started out with. I’m planning on asking my nephew (he’s a football coach) to come with me and show me how to use other machines. It’s not been too bad so far. I’m self-conscious, but I realize that most people only think about themselves, so I’m getting better about that. I’m still nervous about the classes I’d like to take, but I met one of the instructors yesterday and she seems to be a very wonderful lady. So now I’m not as nervous. I hope to get to start the classes later next week (can’t this week and the first of next week due to previous obligations). Thanks for this timely reminder. Hope the rest of your week goes well. Take care, blessed be, hugs!!!

  3. I have learned that worrying about what will come is from a survival instinct humans had when we were new to the earth. It was a safety issue. However, we don’t need to use this as much anymore and it tends to get in the way more than be beneficial. I like the examples you have used. Things often aren’t really as bad as we imagine.

  4. I like your blog. This reminds me of the time that I helped my daughter in taking my little grandson to have his shots. It broke my heart to see him grasping at me for my help, while the nurse had me help hold him down. He has autism and he trusts me. He could not understand why I allowed someone to hurt him. I felt like I had let him down while he was enduring so much pain. It was a huge ordeal for him. It took him some time to get over it emotionally and for me to regain his trust. I honestly have to wonder if these vaccines may have caused his condition in the first place. We research and find that there is not very much information or help for autism. They gave him a series of shots when he was an infant all at one time as he was behind on their schedule of vaccines. He became extremely sick. I don’t understand what happened but I don’t ever want to be the one to take him again. My children had their vaccinations and with no issues. I do understand why we must have them, but I can’t help but wonder if they are really safe. It tugs at my heartstrings when hearing about yet another shot to give them. At the same time, we don’t want them to catch the flu. I have never had one before. I have to ask you if any of you became sick after having the shot? Thank you for sharing your experience. I hope that your son is better now. Take care!
